At Work

Cohete had an active, busy schedule.

Being in the work world was demanding. He rose early, too early/demasiado temprano, with Daddy to help him as he set out on his daily run. Not that Cohete ran, but he cheered for Daddy as he left the house. Then he had to sit with the Boy as he ate breakfast in order to catch any leftover bits of food.  This is on top of the food Mommy had already placed in his bowl. There was the daily walk with Mommy usually just around the immediate neighborhood/el barrio so that he could relieve himself. This walk never took him to places where he wanted to go – like La Margarita’s neighborhood, the Natural Paws Store (his favorite place!), or to one of the dog parks – but it was a good, brief stretch.

Mornings also included the drive to the Boy’s school/escuela, its drop-off lane, and farewell. What is school – what goes on there?  Why didn’t he go there? He often wondered about this.

Home again with Mommy, they’d get to work/trabajo. He realized his role was as her assistant. Mommy worked from home, usually all day – unless she was out of town, where she didn’t need his help. For most of the day he remained on duty, right there at her desk, always at the ready. He realized how she could not get her work done if it were not for his help. And so, he remained on call.

This was his favorite time and place – ever – when he and Mommy were working together in the office. They prepared reports and read a lot of stuff; they took calls from their co-workers across the country, and they were on Zoom calls (what is that, exactly?).  There was much to do; their work was important. He liked being a productive part of the team.

Sometimes they took time for a coffee break – his was to lap ice cubes she held in her hand for him. Or they might get up to stretch or step out on the balcony for fresh air before returning to work. Sometimes they went downstairs to the gym to use the treadmill. This part he did not fully understand or appreciate, but he was a true member of the work team and so he’d go. His duty here was not clearly defined, so he simply laid low.

How he loved these days of being productive, accomplishing important work, of being a part of a team/equipo.

This was absolutely his favorite time and place. And he knew it was Mommy’s too. She valued him and his contributions. They were a work team/equipo de trabajo.
